Key provisions of California foreclosure bill

The provisions are:

  • Homeowners may sue mortgage providers if they signficantly violate state law
  • Homeowners may request judges to halt pending foreclosures but would collect monetary damages only if the foreclosure occurs
  • Lenders must provide a single point of contact for borrowers who want to discuss foreclosures or refinancing, with lenders that process fewer than 175 foreclosures per year exempt
  • Bans “dual-track foreclosures”
